Entry Description
What are your company's key distinguishing features and/or USP?

Mayflex is a leading distributor of converged IP solutions including infrastructure, networking and electronic security solutions. Mayflex owns the Excel brand, a world-class premium performance end-to-end infrastructure solution, providing copper, fibre optic, racking and power solutions to a diverse range of vertical markets.
The Excel brand has recently been announced as the number one cabling supplier in the UK market, with 21% market share (according to BSRIA research).
In August 2019, Excel Networking began a complete overhaul of their product packaging solutions, favouring 100% recycled and recyclable packaging options over single-use plastic, which is an industry norm. This #PlasticFree initiative was forecast to remove over 16 million single use plastic bags, equating to more than 40 tonnes of plastic waste being removed from the supply chain each year.

What tangible impact has your company had on the market and your customers?

Aligned with a global drive for sustainable business practice and corporate environmental responsibility, Excel Networking have lead the way in the structured cabling industry, being the first in the industry to switch to zero single-use plastic packaging on such a vast scale of product lines, with over 90% of Excel products being supplied without any single-use plastic. Stock of Excel products in the plastic free packaging arrived from August 2019 and became the norm for all orders as and when stock in original packaging was depleted throughout 2020.
The goal is to maximise efforts within the business to support sustainable business practice, to continually improve packaging solutions in the eyes of sustainability, and to reduce the reliance on single-use plastic in the wider industry.
Excel Networking has without doubt paved the way in the industry for innovative plastic free packaging solutions. By working in tandem with factories to create bespoke solutions for a large scale of products that are different shapes and sizes, Excel has designed suitable packaging specifically geared towards improving the environmental impact of the packaging.
To put this into perspective for just one product line, in 2018 Excel sold just over one million 100-181 keystone jacks, which were individually wrapped in plastic bags and grouped into tens in another, demanding 1,100,000 single-use plastic bags for just one product line. Extrapolate this across the 1,600 product lines and the return on investment in terms of environmental impact, time saving, and product volume is staggering.
The new packaging materials also offer improved usability for the installer, proven to save engineers up to 60% on their preparation time for each installation. By eradicating individually wrapped components and instead offering multipacks in easy-access cardboard boxes or paper wrappings, it is far more intuitive for an installer to fit the product on-site, providing opportunities for installers to save both time and money on a project.

What levels of customer service differentiate you from your competitors?

What are the major differentiators between your company and your primary competitors?

Historically in the distribution of infrastructure goods, plastic packaging is the go-to solution as an affordable and easy option. Whilst a handful of companies in the sector have dabbled in “green packaging solutions”, not one has made such significant changes to their packaging materials.
Excel Networking Solutions were the first in the market to improve the sustainability of their packaging for such a large scale of product lines (over 90%), with many more changes in the pipeline as we move into 2021 as part of a strategic initiative to continually evolve and make a difference to the environment in which we operate.

Please supply any supportive quotes and/or case study materials to demonstrate the position of your company in the market.
