Entry Description
In July 2020, Supermicro announced an extension of its storage portfolio with the generation top-loading storage systems, with 60-bay and 90-bay solutions launched into the market. This architecture is designed to deliver the flexibility, modularity and serviceability required in high-capacity cloud-scale deployments.
The solution can address the challenges associated with the rapid growth of software-defined, cloud-based storage; helping data centers to modernize their equipment with a storage solution optimized to support scale-up and scale-out architectures, featuring tool-less design modularity and simple expansion capabilities to ensure simplified serviceability.
The 4U systems feature extremely high storage capacity supporting 60x or 90x hot-swap 2.5” or 3.5” SAS3/SATA3 drive bays, 2x onboard PCI-E M.2 slots and 2x internal slim SATA SSD slots. In addition, the single-node system supports 2x rear hot-swap 2.5” bays for OS mirroring and optional NVMe U.2 bays for fast caching. At maximum configuration, this system supports 1440 TB of cost-optimized storage and features 2nd Generation Intel® Xeon® Scalable process in a dual-socket configuration with 16x DIMM slots per server node.
